When Government Listens to Tangata Whenua, Policy Works Better for Everyone
When government decides health, welfare, education, or housing policies affecting Māori communities, Māori as the treaty partner aren’t at the table. They are left out of decisions that shape their future and the tapestry of the country. A new Forum changes this by creating a neutral space for genuine engagement.
A Dedicated Space Where Iwi Leaders Speak Collectively
Convened by Hui E! Community Aotearoa in late 2025, the Forum brings iwi/hapū leaders together to share priorities, advise government and partner with the community sector. Think of it as a bridge: tangata whenua on one side, government on the other, with Hui E! enabling genuine dialogue.
The result: government policy and community sector infrastructure aligns with tangata whenua aspirations.
Hui E! Has Already Engaged 13+ Iwi and Hapū—and Four Leaders Are Already Meeting
The groundwork is done and this is happening now. The four establishment members met in Wellington February 2026. They are, Pari Walker – Chair, Te Parawhau ki Tai, Chrissie Hape – CEO, Ngāti Kahungunu iwi, Michelle Wilson – CEO, Ngāti Tāmaterā iwi and Henare Te Aika-Puanaki – Deputy Chair, Te Rūnanga o Koukourarata.
Hui E! already convenes the Community Constellation, a network of 23 peak bodies, and now, with dedicated co-leadership, is positioned to broker authentic partnerships between tangata whenua, the community sector, and government in ways no other organisation can.
