A message from our Board Co-Chairs on the appointment of our new CE

Mauri mahi, mauri ora*

Do the mahi, get the treats!

It is with grateful hearts and extended arms we announce today the appointment of Dr Katie Bruce as the new Kaiwhakahaere Matua / Chief Executive of Hui E! Community Aotearoa.

Katie comes to us with a decade of senior leadership experience, including as Chief Executive of Volunteering NZ and of JustSpeak.

Katie has extensive knowledge of and experience working in and alongside the community and voluntary sector. Katie is deeply committed to our collective efforts to realise a Te Tiriti-based future for Aotearoa. Katie’s ability to lead teams, build relationships and advocate for equitable systems change – so that communities, hapū and iwi can do what they do best – means we are well positioned to activate our ambitious plans.

Katie is Tangata Tiriti, a Romany woman, and an immigrant from the UK. There she was involved in youth advocacy and setting up youth programmes as a teenager and completed a PhD in Sociology and Social Policy. She now lives in Te Whanganui-a-Tara with her husband and is a proud mum to two boys and auntie to twin nieces.

We want to thank our kaimahi and trustees who have been working hard over the summer to prepare the ground for new leadership. We wish to especially thank Ronja Ievers who stepped up as Interim Chief Executive during this time of transition.

Kia mahi tahi ngā tāngata kia puāwai.

Let’s work hard together so our communities can flourish.

Ngā mihi maioha,
Sarah and Jewelz
