What we do
We champion the sector for a fair and just Aotearoa. We do this through hui, āwhina and kōrero. We celebrate the sector’s contribution to our communities, advocate for its needs, provide capacity and capability building, networking support, and represent its interests with the government and philanthropic sectors.
How we do it
Hui E! Community Aotearoa is responsive to the sector’s needs, so our work grows and changes as the sector does. You can read about our current projects and workstreams here.
Core to our work is our formal network of individuals and organisations in the sector, Mema Whanaungatanga. Read more about the network here.
Our organisation is values-based, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi is at the heart of our work. The Hui E! board operates a Treaty Relationship Framework model based on the spirit of partnership outlined in Te Titiri o Waitangi; there are equal members from Tangata Whenua and Tangata Tiriti and agreed tikanga for collective decision-making. Why Hui E’s work is important
The tangata whenua, community and voluntary sector is rich, vibrant and complex. There are more than 100,000 non-profit groups in Aotearoa New Zealand and the sector contributes to nearly five percent of the country’s GDP.
Organisations in the sector address the needs of the communities they serve or the issues they hope to remedy, but often with more love than money.
Umbrella organisations and sector peak bodies like Hui E! Community Aotearoa exist to represent the needs of the sector and act as a collective voice for challenges it’s facing.
